I am with you!

Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9, NLT

I had a speaking engagement yesterday with the opportunity to sell my new book. Although the presentation went well, I was disappointed because I didn’t sell very many books afterward. During my presentation, I spent time and energy telling aspiring writers not to become discouraged during their journey to write for publication, yet I could not help but wonder, due to my few book sales, if my dream to write professionally was just an exercise in futility.

Joshua and the Israelites finally entered the long awaited land of Canaan. And their first appointment after getting there was to conquer the city of Jericho. Knowing Joshua might have some concerns about the huge task that awaited him, God reminded Joshua not to be afraid nor discouraged, for he would be with Joshua to help him conquer the land.

Aspiring writer, there’s no greater feeling than to finally enter the land of publication. But once you arrive, be careful not to let discouragement settle in if your book sales aren’t going as well as you expect. For God is with you, in spite of low book sales, and he will help you conquer the land.

Writer’s Prayer: Father, when I get discouraged over low book sales in the land of publication, I know you will still help me conquer the land. Amen.

Writer to Writer: If you have recently published a book, let me know what is working and what isn’t working with your book sales? Post your comments on my blog. I enjoy hearing from you!
